 Device Manager error codes are numerical codes, accompanied by an error message, that help users determine what kind of issue Windows is having with a piece of hardware. There are many error codes which device manager generates but I will focus here on code 1 error. When code 1 error generates it means that this device is not configured properly. Code 1 In Device Manager error codes are often triggered by faulty files inside your operating-system. This is the numerical data format of the error prompted. It’s the commonly used error code layout utilized by Microsoft Windows along with other Microsoft Windows compatible software applications and driver providers.

To view the device driver error codes in Windows XP, perform the following steps:

·       Right-click on the My Computer icon and click Properties.

·       Next, click the Hardware tab and then Device Manager.

·       Next, expand the device type that is giving the error. The device that has a problem will have a red exclamation mark next to it. And if yellow exist it shows drivers of a device is missing.

·       Right-click the problematic device and then click the Properties menu. The error code will appear in the Device Status section, on the General tab in the device Properties dialog box.

Error code 1 occurs due to the following reasons:

·       A driver is missing.

·       A driver is not correctly configured.

The steps to resolve device driver code 1 error are as follows,

·       Click the Driver tab on the device properties dialog box.

·       Next, click the Update Driver button and follow the onscreen instructions to update the driver for your device.

Sometimes it happens that we have updated the drivers but still the problem occurs, please check the path you have provided to the driver files.

For the temporary base you can also resolve it by restoring the computer to an earlier period of time when your computer was running properly. You can do so by proceeding through following procedural steps which are as follows,

·        Click the Start button then click on All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click on System Restore.

·       Select “Restore my PC to an earlier period” and then click on Next.

·       Find the latest system restore point from the “select a restore date” list, and then click on Next.

·        Click next in the confirmation screen.

·       Restart the machine when the rescue is done.
